Another week another blue oxford shirt… I made this shirt and my Granville at the same time–assembly line sewing! This one is the Liesl & Co All Day Shirt, which I bought as soon as it came out. I rarely buy a brand new pattern, but this one I had to have, since men\’s patterns are tricky and this one looked like exactly what I wanted for Alex: simple enough to make multiples of, with details that could add a little differentiation between versions but still remain pretty neutral. This is a straight size medium, which is his usual size in Ralph Lauren shirts, but one size up from where his measurements put him on the size chart. I think in truth he\’s between a small and medium, but this very slightly oversized shirt is comfortable and looks good, so I\’m not about to go trace between sizes. Shirts have a lot of pieces to trace!
Unfortunately, because I made this one and my Granville simultaneously, they both have the bubbly interfacing issue. Other than that, though, I think it\’s pretty much indistinguishable from Alex\’s ready to wear shirts, which is what I was going for. This is the first of my #menswearmakenine plans for the year and I\’m pretty excited about it; I feel like it\’s really starting the year right! I can\’t really claim to be \”looking forward to\” making another one since selfless shirt sewing isn\’t really my favorite thing to do, but I do anticipate making a few more over the course of the year, at least.
Since I asked for fit advice last week, I might as well beg the same of you today: any suggestions to make this the best fitting shirt ever?
xoxo,

I think Alex's shirt is just perfect! Most men in my experience don't like to wear their shirts too tight – they like to roll up the sleeves and have it shift with their bodies so not baggy but any restriction will land it in the donate bin :)The fabric is nice for winter – maybe make him another in linen for summer. Well made linen shirts are very pricey for men so this would be really appreciated by him come summer I'm sure.

I think the shirt looks great–it certainly does look professionally made. I'm not, however, interested in sewing menswear and am waiting for some new inspiration for spring/summer wear, especially tops. Also, for some reason I receive your emails super-sized. I could see every facial hair underneath his chin! When I reduce the image to see the text (which I usually have to scroll sideway to read) I can barely make out the type.

Unfortunately, I don't think I have much control over how the emails look–that is something the Blogger platform does automatically! I'll have to look into it, though, and see if I can improve the experience!

Hi, Allie! I have the same experience as Sandra W. It might have something to do with the file size of your pictures. Other emails from Bloglovin look normal (no oversized pictures). Nice shirt you made there. I also sew for my husband and our teenage son, but using Thread Theory patterns. Planning to sew up one of the shirts in the Ryuichiro Shimazaki book. I'm still gathering my courage, though, not to mention my Japanese language skills. Cheers!

Terrific shirt, Allie. It looks great in this fabric, and that tower placket looks super-neat!

This is a great looking shirt! I have my made my brother and son about 20 shirts each using McCalls 6044. (Everything from Star Wars to PacMan to Marvel comics) but I have been thinking I'd like to break out and challenge myself to a long sleeved mens shirt. One they can use for work! You did such a great job! The cuffs are what keeps me from trying but yours have inspired me!
