I\’m Allie.
During the day (and sometime evenings, and alternate weekends) I\’m a children\’s librarian at a public library, which is a great excuse to spend a lot of time playing and to read children\’s literature.
In my free time, I love to sew. allie J. is my place to document my life, especially my sewing projects. I adore the styles of the 1950s and 60s, so expect to find lots of shift dresses and full skirts here. I sew from vintage and modern patterns, striving to create a vaguely-retro wardrobe that works with my real life.
I met my husband Alex at Washington and Lee University (that gorgeous background in the picture above). We got married in May 2015, and I made my own wedding dress. We currently live in North Carolina with our goldendoodle, Bertie Wooster.
Some of my favorite things are all things preppy, cardigans, pink, ballet flats, bows, podcasts, middle school fantasy novels, tea, the 18th century, social history, and sometimes running.
Want to be friends? Leave me a comment, I read every one of them.
xoxo,
allie
Where do you buy your vintage patterns?
I buy almost all of my vintage patterns on etsy, and here\’s a post on how I do it. If you aren\’t quite ready to go all vintage, all the time, I also have posts on how to wear vintage without looking vintage and 8 beginner vintage-reproduction patterns that you can find at any big box fabric store!
