Just a quick note to let you know I have another post up on Minerva featuring this lovely Liberty Tana Poppy and Daisy Lawn. You may remember I made these Wiksten Bloomers in this same fabric, today I made two pairs of the Oh Me Oh My Sewing Flutter Bloomers and two matching bonnets using their Bonnet Bundle pattern. I made the plain bonnet but I can\’t wait to make the pixie bonnet, it\’s so so cute.
The drafting of the Flutter bloomers is pretty different than the Wiksten bloomers–the Wiksten bloomers have a flat bottom hem (the leg opening) and a gently sloping waistband, whereas the Ruffle bloomers have a straight-across waistand a curved leg opening with a facing. I prefer the latter (I love a facing, y\’all), but also, in my non-expert opinion, the Wiksten is drafted poorly. The center back seam is canted up in the center and is not squared off, which means that the back waistband will be pointed up in the center. More importantly, the elastic is encased by simply turning the waistband under twice, and obviously if the back is not straight across, that is pretty hard to do. I have made several Oh Me Oh My Sewing patterns at this point, and in my experience, they are well-drafted and have clear instructions; I recommend them as far as children\’s patterns. It\’s hard to tell which pattern brands are decent in this new-to-me realm, but I think these are. Obviously, if I change my mind, I will update you!
xoxo,
allie
ps: if you are looking for plain bloomers, Oh Me Oh My Sewing has the baby bloomers and the freya bloomers which are both sans ruffles.
