How do family bloggers take such cute photos of their babies?! I (obviously) think these pictures are adorable, because these are my particular children, but… y’all. Trying to get pictures of your semi-mobile children is very hard. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even bothered posting these few goofy photos but I wanted to try out the new photo grid layout I now have since I have wordpress.
This is the Oliver & S Playtime dress in a pretty pink Liberty tana lawn–Wiltshire is the print name. The girls really look so cute in them. Sadly, these dresses were worn about twice and are now too small! I have only myself to blame: they were totally done except for the buttons and buttonholes and then languished on my sewing table for quite a while in that state while the girls ate one slice of chocolate cake, one pickle, one lollipop, one sausage, etc. etc. Tomorrow they will eat one green leaf and presumably be graduating high school–or so I’ve heard.
As far as a review, my one complaint with the pattern is that the arms are pretty narrow on my girls, so they are hard to get on and off in a woven! The pattern calls for knit fabric for the leggings and either for the dress, but I would recommend sticking to knit material for both, I think. Trying to wrangle a wriggly baby into relatively tight arm holes is not top of my list of fun family activities. The second complaint I have is that dresses are bad for crawling babies! This is something that a second-time mother knows, I suppose, but crawling is so challenging while wearing a big dress like this! Further dresses will have to wait under H + E are confident walking around.
Since this is a relatively durable fabric that got hardly any wear, I won’t be giving these away as hand-me-downs, as I have done with most of their other clothes. My plan is to toss both dresses back into the stash and reuse the fabric! The skirts are just big rectangles, so I think I’ll be able to either cut off both skirts and use them as material to make one outfit, or just cut the skirts off and add some elastic to make… elastic waist skirts, for when they are walking and better able to wear a skirt without getting stuck in it while crawling.
I don’t have any more upcoming baby makes at the moment–I’m excited to be sewing for myself again since we can now go places and see people!–but I’m hoping that when the babies are running around this fall I will be able to make them a few more things.

Absolutely stunning! The bonus of them not wearing them much is you have a couple of beautiful heirlooms now! Haha

That’s a wonderful way to think of it! 🙂
